When I post an updated version of my app in the Apple App Store it is not updated on the clients device automatically (if they have auto updates turned on). The app also stops working for people until they manually do the update. Since they aren't prompted to update, many just think the app is broken and give up on it. My MT server has both versions running on it so why does the "old" app not continue to work?

Hi Shawn,
for the auto update: this could either be an issue on the client side (disabled cellular for downloads for example) or it was just to short after your publishing and it wasn't rolled out for auto updates fully. If you're using the very same application id and the new version was released to app store, there isn't anything to my knowledge that you (or we) could do to prevent auto updates.
For the second problem of the "old app not continueing to work": "Not working" means that the old client solution is connecting to the server, but fails to execute some actions?
If this is the case, maybe some data structures on the server were changed like databases and your old solution tries to read the new structure or similar?
best regards mip

Thanks for the reply and the help!
I have used MT for several years and the auto-updating of the app has never worked.
You may be right about "old app not continueing to work" being a DB structure change however I have never removed or changed DB names (tables, fields, etc) but certainly have added them. Surely that would not cause the App to fail. "Not working" means the App is launched and has an error and then dumps to the MT screen with the gear and back arrow (by the way I hide these controls in my published App).
I am getting ready to publish a new version of my App. Would you like to download the existing App on an iOS device. Then after I update see if yours auto-updates? And if it doesn't auto-update if the old version continues to work? I would appreciate this but understand if this is asking too much. If you want to do this the App name is TheLordsWay.

Hi Shawn! Do you also generate Apps for Android? Do you have the same problems here too? There are many issues and questions open and a lot to verify, so I would suggest you contact our free Altova Support to clarify all the details. Best regards, AFC

I released a new version of the App on the Apple App Store and the old version still works on user's device so that is not an issue. However if the user updates their App to the new version they get an error on launch that says, "Cannot deserialize design file content (length = 0)" They have to uninstall and reinstall the App and then it works fine. Of course most users won't know to do this. Any insight?

Hi Shawn,
do you remember which MobileTogether versions you used for the old and the new app, so we can try to reproduce this issue and fix for the next version?
best regards
